A near-total solar eclipse could thrill or disappoint millions, depending on luck and the fickle British weather.
Forecasters believe that Lincolnshire and the Midlands through to southern parts of Wales will get the best view of the celestial show as the moon moves in front of the sun at around 9.30am, covering up to 97% of its surface.
There is also a possibility that clouds over northern parts of the South West Peninsula will part in time for the lunar phenomenon.
